About the Job
We are seeking a creative and user-centered UX Industrial Designer to design innovative physical products and experiences that are intuitive, functional, and visually compelling. This role combines industrial design principles with user experience (UX) methodologies to create products that meet user needs while aligning with business and manufacturing goals. This is a flexible schedule hybrid contract position with a 18+ month duration; contract-to-hire possibility for promising candidates. Residency in reasonable proximity to Kent, WA is required. US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) applicants only. This position is NOT available to C2C (corp-to-corp) staffing agencies.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the end-to-end UX design process for industrial products, including research, concept development, prototyping, and testing.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into innovative design solutions.
  • Develop detailed wireframes, user flows, information architecture, and prototypes using Adobe InDesign.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and optimize user experience.
  • Create visual designs that align with brand identity while ensuring accessibility standards are met.
  • Apply design thinking methodologies to develop responsive and adaptive layouts for various devices including mobile applications and web interfaces.
  • Utilize data visualization techniques to communicate complex information effectively within product interfaces.
 
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in UX/UI design with a focus on industrial or product design projects.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Figma and Jira is required.
  • Strong proficiency in Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), UX Design, or a related field.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in industrial design, UX design, product design, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with embedded and touch screen UI for high contrast system is a must
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating physical product design, UX thinking, prototyping, and user-centered problem solving.
  • Knowledge of ergonomics, human factors, usability testing, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
 
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience designing consumer electronics, appliances, medical devices, automotive products, or wearable technology.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, CNC machining, foam modeling, or physical mockups.
  • Understanding of design systems, accessibility standards, sustainability practices, and emerging UX trends.
  • Ability to bridge physical product design and digital UX for connected or smart products.
 
Compensation: $50 to $60 per hour.
